Blower Door Testing
Blower Door Testing is a process in which professional energy auditors determine the net free ventilation of a house. With the help of Blower door tests, professional energy auditors determine a home's air tightness. Establishing the proper building tightness is necessary due to the following reasons:
• It helps reduce energy consumption due to air leakage
• Avoiding moisture condensation problems
• Uncomfortable drafts caused by cold air leaking in from the outdoors can be avoided
• Improve the air quality inside the home.
The Blower Door Tests Working
In blower door testing, a powerful fan which is mounted to an exterior door. As the fan pulls air out of the house, the air pressure inside reduces. The higher outside air pressure then flows in through all unsealed cracks and openings.
Preparing your home for a blower door test:
• Close windows and open interior doors
• Thermostats on heaters and water heaters should be turned down
• Ashes in wood stoves and fireplaces should be covered with damp newspapers
• Shut fireplace dampers, fireplace doors, and wood stove air intakes.
After the blower door tests, Star Energy auditor will identify and locate the cracks, crevices, and holes across your home. The Auditor has to work with care and take specific note in order to decide which hole is supposed to sealed and to provide best solutions
